Visited my grandfather’s brother’s new place out in Laguna Woods. It’s a retirement community, equipped with activities galore. Golf course, swimming pools, multiple club houses and a bunch of classes you can sign up for. I’m moving there with my sister when I get older and joining the camera club (they have a full service lab on site), while my sister knits sweaters and makes earrings in the jewelry classes they offer. No joke. This is the life, and I’m sold.

…I’ll send you the news.

Y’all know what I’m talking about. Earlier last week, I visited Em at work and headed over to her daily lunch spot. Yes, daily. She recently introduced me to King Taco. I know, I know. Where have I been all this time, right? Old news, old news. Well, it’s new news to me, and it’s WONDERFUL.

Since high school, we’ve all reminisced about wonderful deep fried heartattack inducing goodness aka CRISPITOS. Yeah, don’t lie. All you Arcadia alum have thought about dressing down and pretending like you were high school students just to possibly score some Crispitos during lunch hour. I know it’s crossed your mind before. Well, I’ve done the research and apparently Crispitos are made my Tyson. And Tyson conveniently only sells Crispitos to educational institutions. Sad, right? I found a place online where they sell them, but they require you to buy in bulk. When all is said and done, each one comes out to about $2. Rip off, IMO. But I do still think about Crispitos from time to time. So why am I going off on a tangent about Crispitos, you may wonder? Well, this is where King Taco comes into play.

I’ve heard horrible things about King Taco from my friends. The meat is dry, there’s no flavor in their burritos, their tacos suck, etc. Well I’ve figured out why. They haven’t been to the Pasadena location. This place has an extensive menu compared to the one located in El Monte. Unfortunately, I figured that out 2 days ago when my friend came back from Asia and had a craving for Mexican food. The El Monte location pretty much only serves burritos, sopes, and tacos. Also, they charged me $0.69 per salsa. And I’m talking LITTLE TINY containers of salsa. Think 2 tablespoons of salsa. I spent $3 on salsa alone. WHO DOES THAT?!?!

The Pasadena location is much more clean and they offer what they call spicy chicken chimichangas. This is the closest I’ve come to finding a substitute for Crispitos. Nothing will ever replace Crispitos obviously, but they say beggars can’t be choosers. They also hook it up with the salsa and DON’T CHARGE. So don’t knock King Taco til you’ve been over to the Pasadena one. Trust me. I would’ve hated King Taco if I’ve only tried the El Monte location, too.

Also, I think I’m addicted to Jamaica. It’s pronounced Ha-Mai-Kah. Yes,  the first time I ordered it, I pronounced it with a hard “J” like the country, and was quickly corrected by the lady over at Albertos. I felt embarassed. But upon receiving the Jamaica, that little incident was quickly forgotten. Until now, atleast.
