L&J ;)

Just returned from the happiest place on earth and couldn’t wait to share, so here’s a sneak peek!

Woke up bright and early on Saturday morning so we could make our way over to the Merced River. 21 of us signed up for the full day trip with Zephyr White Water Expeditions. Lucky for us, this trip is only allowed 6-8 days out of the year due to weather and water conditions. We really hit the gold mine on this one!! We all arrived, ready to take on 14 miles of this awesome river. Our group was so large that the gave us our own bus:

I have never been white water rafting before, and was super excited to get some of this class 3/4 action!! We did 3 boats of 5 and a boat of 6. We got trained for about half an hour and we were off with our guides! Team Beaver had a newlywed couple as our guides for the day. They were super in love and even showed us where they had gotten married along the river. The next couple of photos were purchased from their photographer:

Leanin’!

We stopped mid day for some hand made gourmet sandwiches prepared by our guides. We got an hour to rest and play in the water and get re-energized for the rest of the trip down the river. This is our awesome boat doin’ a paddle high five right here:

Hanging out in the water after lunch…

I purchased a GoPRO camera just for this white water rafting trip and didn’t really learn how to use this camera before hand. I thought I had charged it fully but actually only had a couple of minutes left of battery. SO SAD…I was able to capture our first class 3 rapid but didn’t have enough juice to film any of the class 4s. :( :(

It’s alright, there’s always next year when we take on the Tuolumne River in May which has 20 miles of class 4 rapids. This is our raft and our main guide Joe:

Our campsite didn’t have showers so by Saturday, we hadn’t showered for 3 days. After rafting, we snuck into the camp right next to Zephyr and all took quick group showers in our swimsuits. AWWW YEAHHH, SHOWERS YEAH. Showers are awesome…and we definitely take them for granted.

Headed back to camp hoping the people that stayed behind would already have dinner ready for us…except we came home to an empty camp :( :( Got the grill started and cooked our best dinner of the trip. We had marinated flank steak, bulgolgi, fajitas, and pasta salad.

Our last night, we decided to have a little fun. We ended up moving from campsite to campsite to campsite. Had some more smores and snacks along the way.

Last camp meal = left over cheese fajita with flank steak/bulgolgi/Doritos. BOMB.

Packed up all of our stuff and headed to see the large sequoias in Yosemite Park.

This is Buddha being all fancy with the camera right here…

Dear Jono, I like your pinecone. Est-ce que vous voulez des bonbons?

We people watched for a little bit. Some interesting people that I don’t see on a day to day basis. Heh heh.

We thought we’d be out of the park by 3pm to drive home. Instead we left at around 6. This is us stretching against James’ truck.

We drove around town trying to find a good spot to eat. Ended up loitering in the parking lot for a bit before we decided on a Japanese restaurant. This picture almost looks like some sort of Asian band picture. LOL.

Ordered so much food…

Ended up getting on the road at about 7:30pm. I was finally in bed at around 1:45am. Man, what a GREAT trip with even more AWESOME company. Can’t wait to do it again soon!

Boo to the 2 groups that left early morning!! The last 3 sites that were left for the group photo at the end…

I’ve been back from camping for a week now and I can’t stop thinking about it. LOVE the camping after glow! We headed up last Thursday and stayed at Fish Camp for 4 days with a group of 29 of us. We pretty much took over a big chunk of the campsite. It took us about 6-7 hours to get up there due to random traffic for no apparent reason. This our awesome campsite. SEAL TEAM 6 baby!

We put the boys to work on the tent while we unloaded all of our gear:

Ended up getting a really awesome 10 person tent for 5 of us. Very spacious. We fit 2 air mattresses inside and 2 sleeping bags, with plenty of room to spare.

Took it pretty easy the first night, since most people weren’t arriving until the next day.

The night sky was GORGEOUS. Clear view of all the stars, none of this LA smog business up there…

Next morning, we woke up to many more of our people filling in the camp sites. We decided to go hiking nearby to see a small waterfall and just hang out in the sun all day. We went to town to pick up some more supplies and fishing licenses. Big mistake. We should have checked the streams to make sure there were trout in it first…but more on that later.

Ryan brought our cooler a little tent.

He also brought the big legit papa grill for us. Now this is what I call REAL camping.

We made quick breakfast…some bacon and eggs with cheese tortillas. Nom nom nom.

Then we embarked on our mini hike to the waterfall with about half the group. The other half of the group came later on that day.

So many dogs invaded the camp! Should have brought Mochi to the dog party. Here is the other Mochi in the group…so cute!

We picked the best spot in the house and chilled there for a couple of hours. Some people swam and watched the dogs play in the water. Pretty relaxing but tiring at the same time. Yes, yes. Life is hard sitting on a rock. You have no idea.

This is mudbutt B2 HAHA. Don’t even understand how this happened…

After an exhausting couple of hours laying on rocks, we decided to head back to camp and put our fishing licenses to use. Yeah, all 4 of us did not have to purchase the day licenses…because there were NO fish. The campsite manager told us that they had just refilled the waters with some trout. We saw 1. And we walked around the ENTIRE camp along the stream. This is James going Vietnamese fisherman style on that 1 trout. We never caught it.

Visited all of our friends in the different camps before heading back to our own. These dogs are so adorable!!

SEAL TEAM 6 right here doing dinner:

As it got darker, we decided to have a smore party. Apparently, the new thing = cookies & cream smores. Pretty legit, not going to lie. Ate two of these.

Hung out for a bit before heading to bed early. We needed to wake up super early to drive 1.5 hours to the Merced River where we would be taking on the great class 3 and 4 rapids for the entire day…

It’s been awhile. I need to take my finished roll to develop. Did you know that it only costs $3 to develop a roll of film at Target? 1 hour too!! Pretty awesome if you have a scanner.

Let’s get some culture goin’ on here. Pretty awesome event…I believe it happens once a month maybe? A lot different from the DTLA art walk, since everything is so scattered and you need to use  a map to know exactly which galleries you want to go to. Stayed at the Dogtown even most of the night. My buddy Hide was supposed to spin fire that night so I went out to support…but then it got busted by the cops so it didn’t happen. :(

Life art happening in front of me = awesome. mad props to this girl.

coolest art installin of the night…this is a double sided mirror with slits cut into it. so when you spin it and you ahve two people stand on opposite sides of the mirror, you see the other person on your face. it reminds me of the haunted mansion ride where at the end, you see those ‘ghosts’ sitting in between you. SO COOL.

street art happening right here…

the coolest exhibit here again…hard to show with pictures though…
